Weighing in on the City Elections... I do have an opinion...

Rarely do I opine about politics on my Cultural Arts Blog but this years municipal races are way to close to home just to spectate. Besides the candidates were out in full force at First Friday, which I suspect could be ground zero for many of them in the upcoming race to the top.

With candidates of all stars and stripes positioning for endorsements, I do have to at least weight in. In the end to get my vote the candidate has to prove themselves wholeheartedly. The candidate has to support Downtown Redevelopment without exception, must support Economic Diversification through investments in Quality of Life factors such as, Education and the Cultural Arts.

Lets face it, Las Vegas has to diversify its economy. We cannot continue being a one horse town. The only way we will diversify is by encouraging creative businesses to move to Las Vegas and the only way we can do that is by proving to them that we have a good quality of life for their creative workforces. Low taxes is not a panacea for economic growth, we have to be much more creative then that. For a city that invented "The Strip" you would think we can come up with a new show? Of course we can and the candidates for municipal races have to embrace fundamental change on how we do business in the City of Las Vegas. They will have to work hard with business, industry and most importantly the citizenry to make our future prosperous.

My creative musings thus far... (These are not endorsements... Well kinda...)

The Mayors race is really going to come down to 4 equations...

Brown + Ross = Yawn Fest

Goodman + Giunchigliani = Excite Fest

The rest = minutia...

May the Best Woman Win!

City Council Ward 3 Factor

Carpetbagger vs. Career Politician vs. Downtown Booster

The rest = minutia...

This one will be the one to watch... Wink...

City Council Ward 5

Ricky Barlow who else!

The rest = minutia...

That was easy...

City Council Ward 1

Rising Latina Star vs. Basketball Mom

The rest = minutia...

May the Best Woman Win!
