Winchester Cultural Center
Event Description:
Aurelien Fort-Pederzoli and J. Austin Wulliman, violins; Doyle Armbrust, viola; and Russell Rolen, cello; make up the Spektral Quartet, which comfortably mixes Haydn and Beethoven with Philip Glass, George Crumb and newer composers. The quartet is also known for entertaining and experimental approaches to stagecraft.
TimeOut Chicago celebrated the group’s first season, which ended in June 2011 by pointing out that Fort-Pederzoli, who played a recital at Winchester last year, is one of the founders of Chicago’s highly respected classical ensemble Anaphora; that Wulliman is a member of ensemble dal niente; that Rolen is a Northwestern University chamber music coach; and praised the quartet’s “outstanding mix of Mozart and Philip Glass.”
Chicago Classical Review saluted Spektral’s, “winning combination of superb playing and a fresh approach to repertoire choice and concert staging.”
For the Winchester Cultural Center concert, Spektral will perform Josef Haydn’s Quartet in F major, Op. 77 No. 2; "Dig Absolutely" by young Chicago composer Christopher Fisher-Lochhead; and Maurice Ravel’s Quartet in F major.
