The LGBT Center of Southern Nevada announces artist call for work deadline extension...

This is a special announcement for all you artistic types who love to draw, paint, sculpt and or any other media that you choose to create with. This should be a great event to participate in and to attend. I should know... I am on the planning committee! Now get your brushes ready and create art!

Below you will find an online version of the Call for Artists for The Gay & Lesbian Center of So. NV's newly revamped Annual Art Show "ARTrageous Vegas!" to kick off the Las Vegas Pride Week festivities. ARTrageous is a multi-disciplinary arts event to be held on Friday, April 23rd at the Aruba Hotel & Spa in Las Vegas. Building on the success of the Annual Art Show of previous years, ARTrageous will include visual, performance and culinary art, body painting, music, food and so much more!

CALL FOR ARTISTS:
The Center’s 7th Annual Art Show and Silent Auction is looking for new and original artwork for the 7th Annual Art Show and Silent Auction. This exhibition gives LGBT Community and its allies the opportunity to present their finest artists and artworks to the Las Vegas public.

ART RECEPTION:
The Annual Art Show, Silent Auction and Reception "ARTrageous Vegas" will be held at the Aruba Hotel & Spa. This LGBT Center event serves as the major fundraising opportunity to procure funds that allow for programs to be provided to the community it serves.

ELIGIBILITY:
•Only NEW ARTWORK not previously exhibited in the Annual Art Show will be accepted.
•All two (2) dimensional art should be framed and ready to hang with proper hardware attached to the frames, unless gallery canvases are used.
•Sculpture and three (3) dimensional pieces will be accepted. If special display requirements are needed, these must be specified and provided by the artists.
•All artwork must not be in violation of copyright law.
•Maximum dimensions of work must be three feet in width / depth and five feet in height.
•Maximum weight for sculptures is 70 lbs. Sculptures must be stable.
•Artwork, particularly work completed in oil media must be completely dry and cured prior to submission.
•Video art is encouraged and must come with all the electronic equipment necessary to view the piece; only electricity will be provided.
•The artist must provide in writing any special handling requirements for their art.
•Damaged artwork will not be accepted.
•Any artwork left past 30 days over the deadline for pickup will become property of The Center and may
•be sold to defer costs of storage. The Center reserves the right to refuse any artwork that does not conform to the requirements above.

QUANTITY:
Number of submissions is not to exceed two pieces of art. NO EXCEPTIONS. Please attach a three line Bio to be included in the event program. Due to space limitation, art will be hung at the discretion of The Center.

AWARDS:
There will be a Best of Show, second and third place prize and Honorable Mention to be judged and awarded by a panel of jurors.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION:
Thursday, April 16 at 7:00 pm to fax # (702) 733-9075 or ArtShow@thecenterlv.com

DELIVERY OF ARTWORK:
The Center will accept artwork from Thursday, April 1 thru Friday, April 16, 2010 from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. No artwork will be accepted after the deadline. The Center reserves the right to refuse any artwork that does not conform to the requirements above.

ART HANDLING:
The art will be handled and displayed in a professional manner.

PICK UP OF ART:
Artists may take their work immediately after the show or the following Monday April
26th from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. at The Center.

SALES:
Artists are encouraged to offer their work for sale. Sales are 50% to the artists, 50% to The Center. Please price accordingly. Pricing should be realistic, if you do not wish to sell your work, please mark it as “NFS” (not for sale). Prices cannot be changed once your entry has been received. The Center is not responsible for incorrect pricing after entries have been received. All sales are final.

SILENT AUCTION:
Artists are encouraged to donate one piece of work (separate from their entries) for a Silent Auction to benefit The Center.

INSURANCE:
Artwork accepted will be insured; please price each piece even if there is no intent to sell. The Center will examine each piece upon acceptance of artwork.

PERMISSION:
Permission to photograph and/or reproduce works for publicity and other educational purposes is considered granted unless otherwise stated in writing. Submitting the application with entries is deemed a release.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Any artwork left 30 days over the deadline for pickup will become property of The Center and may be sold to defer the costs of storage.

ENTRY FEES:
$25 for up to 2 pieces is required. Exceptions will be taken on a case-by-case basis.
