Dr. Doug Peterson: A Las Vegas Legend!

You know I have been fortunate to have met a lot of really awesome people in my life. Some famous and others not so much. But each one of those individuals have brought me great joy. Whether they serenade me with amazing stories, or just simply need a shoulder to cry on, all of them have left an indelible mark in my psyche. But one person stands out above many. That person is Dr. Doug Peterson.

Dr. Peterson was one of the founding members of the Music Department at UNLV. Back when UNLV was still called Nevada Southern University and its mascot was a confederate coyote called Beauregard. I do have to say just talking to him on the phone is like having a live history book. This year he marks his 45 anniversary with the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society Choir, who themselves celebrate their 50th season! Pretty amazing for an arts organization to have survived this long in Las Vegas. I am looking forward to seeing them perform this year and for the next 50!

Stay tuned for I have a lot more to write about Dr. Peterson and the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society...
