City Of Las Vegas Cultural Arts & Community Events December 21 - 27

Free Community Kwanzaa Celebration Dec. 27 To Honor Calvin “Eagle Eye” Shields

Everyone is invited to enjoy the community Kwanzaa Celebration on Sunday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m. at the West Las Vegas Library Theatre, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Admission is free. Kwanzaa is a celebration of African-American people, their culture and their history. This year the West Las Vegas Arts Center will celebrate Kujichagulia, (pronounced koo-jee-chah-goo-LEE-ah) or self-determination — to speak for ourselves and create our own destinies. The community will present the graduating class of the Girls and Boys Rites of Passage program and honor community elder, legendary jazz pianist and bandleader Calvin "Eagle Eye” Shields. Call 229-4800 for information in advance, or 507-3989 on event day.
